CPSS EN 50171

The electric emergency power supply is a centralized power system specifically designed to be installed in emergency lighting systems and other emergency systems such as automatic fire-fighting systems, alarms, smoke extraction equipment, and carbon monoxide detection systems.

The electric emergency power supply system, better known as CPSS – Central Power Supply System, is designed to provide lighting in the event of a power outage.
The EN 50171 standard applies to systems permanently connected to alternating current supply voltages not exceeding 1000 V and that use batteries as an alternative power source.
The batteries used in CPSS electric emergency power supplies must have an expected lifespan of at least 10-12 years.
The inverters used in CPSS must be capable of handling a continuous overload of 120%.
The chargers used must recharge the batteries within 12 hours, starting from a fully discharged condition.
The enclosure of CPSS must have excellent mechanical resistance, capable of withstanding heat and fire.
