CPSS Power Supply | EN 50171

Power outages are a common occurrence in the event of danger, such as a fire or earthquake. For this reason, the installation of the CPSS System – Central power supply to support the safety systems of the environments we frequent, in particular of work and daily life, is an indispensable condition for the protection of our health.

The safety systems include, first of all, emergency lighting to illuminate escape routes in the event of a fire or blackout, but also electrical circuits of automatic fire-fighting systems, fume extraction equipment, paging systems and signaling systems of safety, systems for signaling the presence of carbon monoxide.

In sites subject to crowding, such as shopping malls, hospitals, museums, schools and workplaces, the CPSS – Central Power Supply System for emergency systems represents an essential safeguard to protect health and safety of people and rescuers in case of criticality. In fact, in these cases the non-ordinary power supply is never, or almost never, working. Therefore, not having the ability to see around you can make the situation even more dangerous and generate further panic among people.

The EN 50171 Standard

The EN 50171 standard “Centralized power supply systems” published on 1 April 2002 “specifies the general requirements for independent centralized power supply systems for safety equipment. This standard applies to systems permanently connected to alternating current supply voltages not exceeding 1000 V and which use batteries as an alternative source.” In fact, the EN 50171 standard applies to emergency and safety systems of buildings that are intended for workplaces or crowds.

The CPSS models for AEC emergency systems have been designed to provide lighting in the event of a normal power supply failure and comply with the EN 50171 standard for the protection of the power supply of emergency and safety systems. AEC’s CPSS rescuers are centralized power supply systems and have the following technical characteristics:

Battery life: the batteries used in CPSS emergency lighting systems have an expected life of at least 10-12 years;
Overload: the inverters used in the CPSS are able to manage a constant overload of at least 120%;
Charging times: the chargers used recharge the batteries within 12 hours, starting from a low battery condition;
Casing resistance: the casing of the CPSS have excellent mechanical strength, able to withstand heat and fire
Duration in case of emergency
: electric rescuers provide up to 3 hours of power for emergency lighting.

CPSS for Emergency System | Which one to choose

To choose the most suitable type of CPSS, there are several factors to consider, including the characteristics of the infrastructure in which they will be installed and the budget available. AEC International offers different models of CPSS power supply:

CPSS 3 (1-10 kW): It uses the full digital control technology and the latest high frequency conversion technology, thus presenting high efficiency, high power factor and other advantages. The CPSS 3 is a towerc electric rescue device which offers significant energy savings and greatly reduces operating costs.
CPSS 7 (10-200kW): use advanced 3-level inverter technology and digital technology for complete interconnection. It offers benefits such as high efficiency and high power density, while only taking up a small amount of floor space.
All CPSS system require constant routine maintenance and the AEC International team offers a 24/7 assistance service to all its customers.
